Downsizing and estate moves in St Ives

Most of the moves in this suburb are not people arriving. They are people leaving a house they have been in for twenty, thirty, forty years, and that is a different job from a rental changeover. It deserves a different method.

The method: carry, never cull

A long tenure fills a house in layers: the rooms you live in, the cupboards you stopped opening in 2009, the garage. Our job is not to tell you what matters. It is to give the decisions you make somewhere to go, at a pace that does not bully you.

  • Four destinations, agreed up front. Coming with you, going to family, going to charity, going away. Every carton gets exactly one of those labels and we keep the streams physically separate on the day.
  • The timeline runs backwards from settlement. If the date is fixed by a contract or an executor, we sequence the weeks before it: packing visits first, the heavy day last, and slack built in where the family conversation might need it.
  • Rooms close one at a time. The house stays liveable until late in the piece. The kettle and two chairs are famously the last things onto our truck.
  • Nothing is hurried past you. If a drawer turns out to be forty years of letters, the crew moves to the next room, not through it.

For executors and family managing it from a distance

Estate moves often run through a son or daughter in another city, a solicitor, or all three. We are comfortable being the local hands in that arrangement: photographs of anything you ask about before it moves, cartons inventoried by room, delivery split across multiple addresses when siblings are each taking pieces, and the balance carried to charity or storage as instructed. You get one written plan that says who receives what, and the day runs off that document, not off memory.

Where furniture is headed to a village unit or a smaller place nearby, we do the measure at the destination too. A sideboard that will not clear a villa corridor is a conversation to have two weeks early, not on the driveway.

What it costs

The same three published crews as every other job, by the hour: most downsizing days run with 3 movers + 1 truck at $250/hr online. Packing visits ahead of the day use the 2 + 1 crew at $200/hr. Every number is on the rates page; there is no special "estate pricing" and never will be.
